How much should I expect to pay for a Lilly Non-Branded Insulin?

Prescription drug prices can be confusing. Two people may pay different prices for the same drug, depending on their insurance situation.

The list price1 is for each of the following:

  • 5-pack of 3 mL Insulin Lispro Injection U-100 KwikPens (15 mL or 1,500 units)
  • 5-pack of 3 mL Insulin Lispro Protamine and Insulin Lispro Injectable Suspension Mix75/25 KwikPens (100 units/mL)
  • 5-pack of 3 mL Insulin Lispro Injection Junior KwikPens (100 units/mL)

The list price1 is for:

  • a 10 mL Insulin Lispro U-100 vial

Most people do not pay the list price. The amount you pay depends on your prescription drug insurance plan. Insulin needs vary significantly from person to person. Given this variability, providing a relevant average cost for a month’s supply of insulin is difficult. For the most accurate information, talk to your insurance provider who knows the details of your plan.

Find Out if a Lilly Non-Branded Insulin is Right for You

Lilly's Non-Branded Insulins are lower list-priced insulin options to the branded Humalog insulin that may help lower out-of-pocket costs. When you pick up your prescription, your pharmacist will help evaluate which is the least expensive option for you. For many people with commercial drug insurance, Lilly's Humalog branded insulin may still have a lower out-of-pocket cost than Lilly's Non-Branded Insulins.

If you are in a high deductible period, you should ask your pharmacist which is the lower-cost option for you.

Individuals should consider formulary status of all medications they may be taking when making enrollment decisions. Only your insurance provider or pharmacist will be able to determine the most cost-effective option for you.

Don't Have Insurance?

If you do not have prescription medication insurance coverage, you should ask your pharmacist which is the lower-cost option for you.

1 List price, also referred to as wholesale acquisition cost or WAC, is the price at which Lilly sells its products to wholesalers. The prices patients pay at the pharmacy may be different and largely depend on the out-of-pocket costs set by their insurance provider, pharmacy charges, and/or discounts or financial assistance that may be available to the patient.
